GPSing Fruit Trees of Seaside

Today Eessa, Alex and I went out to Seaside to map fruit trees. There were fruit trees than I expected. The Seaside military housing community and the golf course had no fruit trees, interesting right? Below I will attach a snip picture of the trees we mapped today.

For the hour and half we were out there, there were quite a bit just from four blocks. I am very excited to go out and GPS more fruit trees on Sunday with more time to spare. There could be further analysis of the total Seaside fruit tree concentration area and why, what are the factors, etc. Here's a up close picture of our collection today:

Of the fruit trees mapped, there were lemons, oranges, loquat, kumquat, apple, guava, apricot, and pomelo. Quite a variety! And most of these tree were matured and can bear quite a bit of fruits. Improvement for next GPS day is to also take observation of age, size, location, potted/not potted, and health signs.

Many ideas next is to compile a fruit tree information brochure/our program, create user friendly mapping interface tool for residents, and condensing website with more research and information.

We are meeting with Seaside Sustainability community leaders coming up Monday and will need to be prepare to have some meaningful and productive exchanges.
